Giving critically sick babies their best chance at survival.
Offering evidence-based, innovative models of neonatal care for Africa.

Neonatal diseases is the leading cause of death in most African countries, irregardless of age or gender. Prematurity accounts for most newborn deaths, and most of these deaths could be prevented with currently available, cost-effective interventions.

The Institute for Child Healthcare Africa (ICHA) arose out of a decade of innovative neonatology work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre. We changed the narrative that small, sick babies rarely survive in Africa. Our outcomes demonstrated that even the smallest baby can survive and thrive.

A NICU is a place where heaven bends to meet human frailty.
